1.6 Speech Assessment

The core speaking task for this year.

Over the past week, we have been exploring public speaking and getting ourselves to a point where we feel comfortable speaking in front of each other as a class. We have played a variety of games and at each stage, discussed how each game encourages us to try out various aspects of oral language.

Charades: The use of facial expressions, body language and space to communicate an idea. It’s tricky when you can’t talk!

The History Of..: Spending time writing a short story about where something comes from and presenting it to the class. Practices the ‘beginning, middle and end’ structure of a story and the feeling of standing at the front of the room with all eyes on you!

Tongue Twisters: With this task, we practised the careful articulation of sounds. It is really important that you speak clearly so that your audience can understand your speech!

Reading books to each other: Using the vocal variation to enhance the content being delivered.

The task for this assessment can be found below. The exemplars discussed in class can be looked at by approaching the teacher.
